Let's Make It A Set + Blog Hop

Here we are with another Let's Get Hopping Blog Hop. This month's theme is card sets. Here's my crafty inspiration for you:

For this set I painted an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of photo paper with turquoise blue, white, and gold acrylic paint.

 

Once dry I cut it up into backgrounds. I wish that you could get touch sensation through a computer because you would be amazed how these cards feel. It is like a dreamy thick piece of textured vinyl. It's such a unique hand painted little piece of artwork.

For this card set I used one of my all time favorite stamp sets, Colorful Seasons from Stampin' Up. I love these bold sentiments. Here's a crafty tip: My husband brings me home all these silly little pieces of trinkets and trash that he finds on the floor at work, all the time, and asks if I can use it for something. Most of the time it goes straight into the circular file (shh, don't tell), but those cute little flip flops were one of his finds. I love being able to re-purpose items into my work. I have had these lying around my craft room for about three years waiting for an opportunity.

Let's Make It A Set + Blog Hop

Using an Acrylic Pour for Cards | #SIP147 |#JAI406

The other day I was working on some paintings and decided to experiment. I use the back of photo paper for alcohol ink paintings so I always have some readily on hand. When I was doing some acrylic paintings I thought I would do a pour over the front of my photo paper with the idea that I would cut it up for card fronts. Then comes along this weeks Stamp, Ink, Paper #147 challenge and I knew immediately what I was going to use. As it came together I realized it was also the perfect design entry for this week's Just Add Ink #406 challenge as well so I doubled down. It turned out beautifully. Let's take a look:

Here's a funny story, my husband comes home all the time with little trinkets and trash that he finds on the floor at work and asks me if I can use it for something. These little flip flops were one of those finds. I have had them sitting around my craft room for about three years but bi-golly I found the perfect use for them. I love being able to reclaim found objects in my work. Here is look at the photo sheet, I'll definitely be using it up on some more cards:

I didn't want to take away from the gorgeous background so I opted to emboss my sentiment from the Stampin' Up Colorful Seasons set onto vellum. I hear a lot of card makers say they are afraid of black embossing powder but I'm not sure why. The lighting on my photo doesn't do it justice but it turned out fantastic and looks like it was enameled. I am almost inclined to frame it!

Die Cuts With a View + Freshly Made #329

Here's your crafty tip: Give your backgrounds some texture using nothing more than your scoreboard. I gave this card a textured waffle weave background using my scoreboard and then I used the Stampin' Up Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits to cut out the dragonfly from the front of my panel. The other day I was working on some alcohol ink paintings and I had some left over scraps. You know how we crafters are, never throw anything away right? You never know when you can use it on another project.

Because I cut the dragonfly from the panel, instead of cutting the shape to place on top of the panel, I was able to slip my painting under the matte and move it around until I found the perfect placement for it. Now we have a die cut with a view! It's hard to pick up in photo but that waffle weave texture is just to die for.

I think this color combo is so striking. I may have to use that again, I might just happen to have another piece of that alcohol ink painting lying around after all!

Die Cuts With a View + Freshly Made #329

Painting with Alcohol Inks + Art Cards

As you know, here at Crafted Charm I love to do all kinds of crafty things. One of the most popular items in my shop when I opened it was original alcohol ink painted jewelry. I have decided it was time to bring them back, along with original art pieces. Today I have some miniature paintings that I created from alcohol inks. These miniatures are art cards that I will be exchanging with other alcohol ink artists. Talk about intimidating, I am very out of practice and these artists are amazing. all of these were painted on the back of some Kirkland (Costco brand) photo paper. It's much less expensive than Yupo but works just as well.

I basically did 3 different styles trying to get back into my groove. I really love all of them. These cards are only 3.5 x 2.5 so I thought it would be perfect to mount them on a gift card backer that I die cut from some basic black card stock.

This one is a fluid abstract that I used gilding flakes to line the veining with. Opening up some gilding flakes is like opening up glitter. Believe me when I say, if you breath in the slightest, the stuff is going everywhere.

Here is your crafty tip: To do this gilding I took a simple glue pen to line where I wanted the gilding to be. I let it dry slightly to just tacky, and then I lightly applied the gilding flakes. I let that sit briefly before pressing the flakes down onto my piece of art. The reason I let it dry slightly first is to ensure that the glue wasn't going to completely smear out larger than I wanted my veining to be. If you go into it wet and press down it spreads. I let the glue dry for about an hour before I brushed off all of my excess.

This one is a simple landscape abstract. To create the tree I went in with a copic blender pen and pulled the color out. I added a touch of black copic to the sides and then pulled that through as well to give it some highlights and shadows.

Here we have a winter night landscape.

Painting with Alcohol Inks + Art Cards

So Much More - Framed Art

I love doing projects with my supplies other than cards. Having so much versatility in products that you invest in makes them so much more valuable. Stamps can be used for so much more than you could imagine. Here I created a framed watercolor using the Beautiful You stamp set, which was stamped onto some watercolor paper in black ink and then heat set with a clear embossing powder.

Here's a tip: I tend to use my regular colored ink pads and put clear embossing powder over top instead of using colored embossing powder because I find that I get much cleaner embossing that way and, bonus, I don't have to invest in a ton of colors (or storage space) to get exactly the color I want.

This is one of the projects that I think is so stinking cute I can't stand it. I just love water coloring too, not that I'm a master at the craft but I think I did pretty good. This is a 4x4 frame I picked up at Hobby Lobby. This was so easy, so simple, and yet looks like a wow to me.

This stamp set has such great inspirational sentiments in it, and has perfect images to color. I have also done this project with copics as well, and the color options are endless.
