CAS(E) #291

Today I have my first card in month's! I feel so out of practice, it's been a long summer. No better way to jump back into it than with a card challenge. So today's inspiration is courtesy of CAS(E) this Sketch. Let's take a look:
Clean white card base, just the way I like it, with a gorgeous pop of color. I painted a full background in alcohol ink and then die cut it to create my elements. I think I may have found a new favorite technique. I love how the sentiment came out and I can't way to do more.
Have a crafty day, thanks for stopping by!

Paper Pumpkin and CAS(E)#258

Today's crafty share is a sketch challenge courtesy of CAS(E) This Sketch. I created a Heartfelt Love Notes Paper Pumpkin alternate card, well gift card slider really, using this weeks sketch.  I think it turned out super cute.

If you have played with the January kit, then you know that the card is smaller than an A2. My version here with the addition of the pull tab perfectly fits inside a standard size envelope.

I used two of the adhesive banners to make the pull tab for the slider and sandwiched the white insert between them. I keep a stockpile of removable glue dots on hand that are perfect for attaching gift cards to projects just like this. You can write your message to the receiver and then attach the gift card with the removable dot, when they pull off the gift card it doesn't damage the card itself.

CAS(E) #238 + Embossed Die Cut

Today's inspiration is courtesy of the #CTS238 challenge. I embossed the flourish from Everything Eleanor in silver over one of my favorite Stampin' Up In-Color's, Berry Burst. I die cut the love sentiment (and the butterfly) from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits, added a few sequins, and popped my panel up over my card base. The sentiment needed to stand out a bit more since my card front was darker, so I added a piece of vellum behind it and put on a little Wink of Stella for some sparkle.
Except.....I didn't love it. Have you ever had an inspiration block? Using sketches can really help. One thing I appreciate about paper crafting is that it can be forgiving, your designs can evolve, and you can add layers to quickly change something you aren't in love with. After an hour away from desk to contemplate what it was I didn't love about this design I came up with a few saves for it. I think the black sentiment over the simple background just wasn't enough.
And finally, a design I can stand behind. In the end I decided to cut another layer of my die cuts, threw on some versmark, and dipped it in my silver embossing powder. Twice. The final result has a really smooth finish, the bonus is that it matches the embossing at the top instead of trying to use silver foil cardstock. Who knew two coats were better than one? I love the result you get from embossing over die cuts.
The next time you have an inspiration meltdown I encourage you to grab a sketch and get your juices flowing, and sometimes you just need to walk away. Inquiring minds want to know, how do you push through a creative block? Please share!

CAS(E) #237

Tonight I finished up my card design for this weeks CAS(E) this Sketch challenge. I don't often do black cards but I really enjoyed how it turned out. A little copper embossing and copper thread, a little stenciling in white, just a splash of color. Love it!
I used a little whisper white pigment ink and inked over a stencil with a dauber for my background. This sentiment came from one of our exclusive Paper Pumpkin stamp sets circa October 2016 Season of Gratitude. If you haven't subscribed to Paper Pumpkin yet I encourage you to take advantage of this month's special for half off (expires on the 10th so don't wait). You should check it out, my subscribers also enjoy crafty gifts directly from me.
I wasn't sure how this copper would work on black so I was prepared to re-do it but I really like how it turned out. These leaves came from the May Flowers Framelits.
I put just a touch of copper thread to finish off the bottom and a few sequins. Thanks for visiting today I hope this provides you with some inspiration for your next project.

Have a fabulous day, and happy crafting!

CAS(E) #236

Today I am participating in CAS(E) this sketch #236. I knew I wanted to do some sort of watercoloring so what I ended up doing was making a background by doing a little smooshing. I inked up my stamp block, spritzed with water, and then placed it on my paper to soak up all that delicious color.
I decided that I really wanted this torn edge look, if I had a sewing machine I would have also added a stitching all the way around the torn edge. If you have a sewing a machine that can stitch on paper, I would love for you to try it out and share the results.
I stamped my images out on white card stock, heat embossed with white ink, and then did a little watercoloring. No fancy water color palette needed. I simply tapped the color I wanted onto one of my stamping blocks, grabbed my trusty aqua painter and off we went. I really love how it turned out. Here's a tip, by using your regular ink pads for watercoloring, you can be sure your projects always match and coordinate. Here's another tip, I didn't have any watercolor paper handy that wasn't off white so I used my Stampin' Up whisper white thick to watercolor on.When using the aqua painters you don't need to soak your paper in a ton of water. The thick card stock holds up very well with this technique.
For the flowers and leaves I used the Falling Flowers stamp set and May Flowers Framelits. The sentiment is from Watercolor Wishes, it is a retired kit but I can't get enough of these go to sentiments.

Thanks for stopping by.

CAS(E) #235

I created this card for challenge #235 at CAS(E) this Sketch using the Stampin' Up 2017-2019 new In Colors and some crumb cake cardstock.

Do you remember this card?
When I was making it I had these pieces left over, I just knew I had to do something with them:
Waste not, want not right! I think I maximized the use of my supplies, who doesn't love that.
I'd love to hear about ways you have come up with to maximize your supplies.

Have a fabulous day, and happy crafting!

CAS(E) #234

I decided to participate in another challenge. This one is over at CAS(E) this Sketch:
Since I was already in Christmas mode after yesterday's challenge I decided to shoot for it again.
Recognize the stamp set? It is Paper Pumpkin circa November 2016 Wonderful Winterland. I cut two snowflakes with the Seasonal Layers Thinlits in silver foil to place behind my sentiment that I cut from the Stitched Shapes Framelits. I have to say these are two MUST HAVE sets. I have found them to be so versatile and nothing beats that little touch of stitching added to a simple circle, square, or even oval cut out for a sentiment.
I had left over pieces from my snowflakes that I thought would work as embellishments. I have such a hard time throwing out any kind of scrap. It can always be used somewhere haha.
So the verdict, did I meet the challenge?

Have a fabulous day, and happy crafting!
